Pipeline Information

This subseries contains pamphlets and booklets meant to inform the reader about pipelines and natural gas. Topics include: safety and legal information for landowners with pipelines on their property, basic scientific information about natural gas with an emphasis on its benefits over other sources of energy, the procedure of public hearings, and frequently asked questions. Also included is a collection of documents on the environmental impact of various kinds of energy sources.

This collection contains documents related to a pipeline project by the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline, which would bring natural gas from Sable Island to the Saint John region, as well as the Charlotte County region through a lateral addition that would extend south of Lake Utopia. Contains newspaper articles on the project, as well as articles by Mike Whalen representing the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline and answering questions. Also included are announcements of open houses and informational documents, pamphlets, and booklets. These informational documents discuss both the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline Project itself, as well as pipelines and natural gas in general.

Northeast Pipeline Information

This subseries contains pamphlets, booklets, and documents meant to inform the reader about the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline Project. These informational documents discuss common questions, the processes that the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline must follow to develop this project, landowner relations, opportunities for employment and for small businesses in communities, and information about West Coast Energy Inc., the parent company of the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline.

Newspaper Articles

This series contains a St. Croix Courier article dated September 12 1997 on a proposed lateral pipeline addition 16 inches in diameter being added to the pipeline proposed by the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline Project. This addition would run through the Lake Utopia region to Saint John, and could bring natural gas, and by extension cheaper power, to Charlotte County. The article also announces an open house at the Pennfield Lions Club for anyone with questions or concerns about this proposed pipeline. There is also another St. Croix Courier article dated December 27 1996 on landowners in Charlotte County having a meeting to discuss their dealings with Trans Quebec and Maritimes Pipeline Ltd. and Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline, and to discuss their concerns.

This subseries contains newspaper articles written by Mike Whalen, the communications and government relations manager for Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline. These articles offer assurances and answer questions or concerns people might have about the proposed pipeline project. Mike Whalen discusses safety concerns, landowner consultation, natural gas safety, economic benefits, and other frequently asked questions.

Public Outreach

A collection of documents, one of which ran in a newspaper, announcing open houses for guests to offer their input on a pipeline project by Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline. The proposed main pipeline is 30 inches in diameter and will extend from south of Big Kedron Lake to the city of Saint John. The dates for these open houses were October 2 1997 in Saint John, and October 3 1997 at Milford.

Correspondence

This series contains a letter from Jim Redford, Laterals Project Manager with Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline, to John Anderson of the Charlotte County Historical Society, dated December 5 1997. This letter provides information on the proposed pipeline project, and a request for comments on the preferred route for this pipeline lateral.
