Biographical history

Harry Hagerman, the son of Edith M. (Thompson) and Wilson I. Hagerman, was born in York County, New Brunswick. The Hagermans had 10 other children, namely, Blanche Elizabeth (Liston), Della (White), George William, Alfred, Margaret (Clark), Pearl (Carten), Norman, Donald, Harold, and Pauline, who died in infancy.

Harry Hagerman, a reporter and local historian in Fredericton, made his home for a number of years at Temperance Vale. He wrote numerous articles and editorials for various provincial papers, as well as a number of pieces and interviews for the Canadian Broadcasting Company radio and television networks. His interests included riverboats and early transportation on the St. John River, the history of New Brunswick popular culture in the early twentieth century, folklore and legends of New Brunswick, early automotive history of New Brunswick, and biography of local citizens. Harry Hagerman was living in Fredericton in 2000.

The fonds contains guidelines and outlines for radio and television interviews that Harry Hagerman conducted on a number of topics related to the folk history and culture of New Brunswick, taped interviews and their transcribed texts, sketches, newspaper clippings and miscellaneous material that Hagerman collected during his reporting and investigations or research.
