Biographical history
Harriet Paisley was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in 1867, the daughter William (ca 1831-1885) and Mary Ann (Annie) Barbour (1832-1887). She had two brothers: John MacIntosh Paisley and William T. Paisley. She died in 1920 in Bennington, Vermont. Harriet married Joseph E. Lambert (1847-1936) in 1892 at Portland, Maine. They had one daughter, Bertha Paisley Lambert (1892-1995) who married Ralph A. Burt (1891-1974) in 1929.
William Paisley, Harriet's father, worked at the post office as deputy post office inspector and operated a grocery store. Harriet and her family moved from Fredericton to Saint John shortly after Confedertion. After the death of her parents, she lived with several different reltives including her uncles, Charles Paisley and Robert Barbour, and her brother William. At the time she began her diary, she was living in a rooming house in Portland, Maine.

Scope and content
Fonds includes music and prayer books, Paisley genealogy notes, correspondence between Harriet Paisley and her parents, 1879-1881. There is an invitation to William and Miss Paisley from the City of Saint John, 1890 and a typescript and original of Harriet Paisley's diary, 1892. There are autographs albums, 1881-1887, 1888-1897 and typescript as well as a scrapbook.
