Biographical history

George V. Beatteay (1830-1912) was a carpenter, builder and joiner in Saint John, New Brunswick. He was the clerk of works for the construction of the quarantine station on Partridge Island and worked on many ships. He also made coffin plates for his father William who was an undertaker (corner of Prince and Ludlow).

Scope and content

This fonds contains the account books for George V. Beatteay's contract work. Some of the projects he worked on were: Quarantine Station on Partridge Island (ca. 1898-1900); Indiantown school; Immigrant building; M.R.A. warehouse; Wiggins Male Orphan Asylum; numerous personal dwellings; and the following vessels: Royal Oak, Skewsbury, Aclede, D.W. Clark, Annie F. McLeod, Jennie Clark, Iris, Olive, Lizzie, Crocus, Irish McLauglan, Ida E., Buckle, Rothesay Parole, Archille and Arnon.
