Frederick Neil Brodie was born in 1871 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, but moved to Saint John at an early age. He attended Saint John Grammar School and later studied architecture in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was influenced by the Beaux-Arts and the Colonial Revival styles. He first advertised as an architect in Saint John in 1901, giving his address as 42 Princess Street. He worked from then on to his last commission in 1926, the year he died. His work encompassed dozens of structures for private and public use such as the New Brunswick court house in Woodstock, the Imperial Theatre in Saint John, numerous local schools, Maritime Motor Co., King's Square bandstand, and the reconstruction of St. David's Church after it had been destroyed by fire.
