Notice biographique
Florence Cecelia Estabrooks, the daughter of Henrietta Rebecca Hoben and Leander Estabrooks, was born 31 October 1883 at Swan Creek, Sunbury County, New Brunswick. Her father was a St. John River boat captain who moved his family to Saint John, N.B. in 1890. Florence graduated from Saint John High School in 1900 and from McGill University in 1909, where she received the Chapman Medal in classics.
Following graduation, she returned to Saint John to teach at Saint John High School. Beyond teaching, Florence Estabrooks was keenly interested in genealogy. Her research into her family history culminated in the volume, "The Genealogy of the Anglo-Dutch Estabrooks Family of New Brunswick" in which she traces the ancestry and activities of pre-Loyalist or Planter Elijah Estabrooks and provides information on the Westmorland County branch of the Estabrooks family.
