Mercy Anne Coles (1838-1921 or 22) was born on Prince Edward Island, the daughter of George Coles (1810-1875), one of the Fathers of Confederation and a former premier of the province, and Mercy Haine (1817-1892). With her parents, she attended the Quebec City Conference in 1864, at which plans for the eventual union of the British North American colonies in Confederation were discussed.
