History

Henry Chandler was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on July 30 1875. He was the son of Henry A. Chandler of P.E.I and Ellen (McGregor) Chandler, whose birthplace is unknown. The family moved to New Brunswick when Henry Chandler was very young, and his youth was spent in Woodstock where he received his early education. Henry Chandler began his career as a crown lands surveyor with the government of N.B., a position he held for several years before joining the Canadian Pacific Railway as a civil engineer. He held this position for 35 years, during which he resided in Woodstock, Moncton, and Saint John. He was also a member of the New Brunswick Rifle Association, and coached the N.B. team on several occasions. Henry Chandler married Isabella Miller from Ottawa, Ontario on September 3 1894 in Westmorland County, and the two had many children including Nora Chandler, John Allington Chandler, Charles Edward Chandler, William Saunders Chandler, and Gordon Allington Chandler. Henry Chandler died on September 5 1951, and is buried in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery.
Nora Chandler married Clifford Alton Rafuse on September 18, 1930 in Woodstock, N.B. John Allington Chandler became a lumberman and lumber inspector, and married Ruby Mary Mercer on February 12 1928 in Campbellton, N.B. He died on April 4 1936 in Woodstock, N.B. Charles Edward Chandler was an assistant station agent and later a telegrapher who married Morgan Nellie on February 1 1930 in Andover, N.B. He later divorced Morgan Nellie and married Eva Mae McGrath on July 18 1941, and later died on May 7, 1952, in Edmundston, N.B. Throughout the life of William Saunders Chandler he was a construction labourer, a clerk, and a painting contractor. He married Annie Stevens on May 15 1927 in Wakefield, N.B. After she passed away, he married Mildred Kathleen Currie on November 18 1930 in Richmond, N.B. Lastly, after she passed away he married Minnie Beryl Nickerson on October 14 1967 in Rothesay, N.B.
William Saunders Chandler and Mildred Kathleen Currie had at least three children. In 1935 they had a son named William Allington Chandler. He would work for the Sun Life Assurance Co., and married Janet Lang Henry on October 10 1959. In 1937 William and Mildred Chandler had a son named Ross Allan Chandler, who would become a teacher in St. Andrews, N.B. He married Barbara Anne Holt on September 16 1961. Lastly, William and Mildred had a son named John Wayne Chandler in 1939, who became an R.C.M.P. officer. He married Beverly Joan Stone at Rothesay, N.B. on December 28 1963.
