History
Christopher Boultenhouse [b. 1802] was one of six children born to shipbuilder Bedford Boultenhouse [1762 - 1848] and Charlotte Harper [1770 - 1836] in Wood Point, New Brunswick. Following in his fathers footsteps, Christopher Boultenhouse began shipbuilding around 1825 and in 1840 he opened a shipyard near the newly-constructed public wharf at Dixon's Landing near Sackville, New Brunswick. Boultenhouse was married twice, first to Rebecca Harris with whom he had ten children and then to Arabella Morice following Rebecca's death in 1849 with whom he had two more children. Boultenhouse's shipyard built several vessels a year until he was forced to declare insolvency following a depression in 1859. The shipyard was re-opened in 1861 and continued building vessels until Boultenhouse's death on 2 December 1876.
