Biographical history
Ann Eliza Rogers, the daughter of John and Eleanor Rogers, was born in Hopewell, Albert County, New Brunswick 12 July 1837. In 1855 she married John McAuley Gallacher, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, and they had three children: Frank Howe, Achsah G. (Ryan), and Isabella. John Gallacher spent much of his time away from his family working and searching for work in the United States. By 1866, the Gallachers had settled in Philadelphia, and it was the following year that John was killed in an explosion at the chemical works plant where he was employed.
Following John's death, Ann Eliza Gallacher returned home to Hopewell with her family. On 12 September 1869 she married a second time, to Lemuel R. Moore (b. 1843) of Hopewell Hill, N.B, and they had no fewer than five children: Ella K. (1870-1900), Jennie E. (1872-1965), Charles Archibald (b.1874), Donald McKenzie (1877-1915), and J. Dodge. Son Donald was killed in action in France in the Great War. Lemuel and Ann Eliza Moore died in 1895 and 1896 respectively. They are buried in Hopewell Hill Protestant Cemetery.

Scope and content
This fonds consists of 5 diaries kept by Ann Eliza Rogers Gallacher Moore, from 1852-1876 and from 1890-1896 inclusive. The diaries record the activities of her family and friends, as well as local, provincial, and national events.
In particular, she notes births, deaths, marriages, church meetings, and social gatherings and comments on such events as federal elections, the earthquake of 1885, and outbreaks of consumption and cholera in the 1850s. Her entries for the 1860s deal with the Gallacher family's life in Boston and Philadelphia, and she makes particular mention of natives of Hopewell, Albert County, N.B., who were residing there. As well she comments on activities pertaining to the American Civil War.
