Alice was born in 7 June 1907 she was the eldest daughter of Thomas James and Madeline E.P. (Wood) Coughey. She attended Prince Arthur School in St Andrews and achieved a B.A. from UNB in 1929. She had a varied career she was a teacher, a long-term employee of Conley’s Lobsters and was an administrative secretary at St Andrews Town Hall for many years. She assisted with the visit of the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1939, and was presented to Her Majesty. She was a very active member of the St Andrews United Baptist Church as treasurer, Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She also wrote and published a history of the church. She was very active in the Canadian Club of St Andrews and the Pythian Sisters. She also assisted her mother with the St Andrews library.
