DeWolfe, Rev. Charles

The Reverend Charles DeWolfe was a Methodist minister, ordained at City Road Chapel, 14 September 1838, following his studies at Theological Institute at Huxton, England (1836-1838). He immediately returned to Canada, where he was received into the Eastern British America Conference. Between 1838 and 1848, he served in Yarmouth, Halifax, Horton, Windsor and Charlottetown.

In 1843, Charles DeWolfe was an agent at Mount Allison Academy. At Mount Allison College he was Professor of Theology and Hebrew Language, 1864-1868, and Professor of Theology and Moral Science, 1869-1870. He also served on the Mount Allison Board of Trustees and Governors, 1864-1870.

Barbara Sternberg, Gallery Co-ordinator in charge of school workshops at the Community Arts Center, Middle Sackville, New Brunswick, prepared this audio/visual presentation about the Enterprise foundry in 1979. It was to be made available to any interested teacher, community group leader or service club.

Jamieson, James S.

James S. Jamieson attended Mount Allison University, graduating in 1935 with a BA degree with Honours in Chemistry. He later taught Physical Education in Germany, disappearing in 1938 or 1939.

Clarence A. “Spec” Peebles and E. Brock Rideout were classmates of Jamieson (1931-1935). Rideout graduated with a BA degree in 1935. He was also Editor of the Argosy Weekly 1935/36.

McLauchlan, Donald Wells

Donald W. McLauchlan came to Mount Allison University as a student from Bathurst, New Brunswick, in 1925. In 1927, he received an engineering certificate, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in chemistry in 1929. He remained with his alma mater for one year to instruct in the Department of Chemistry and the McClelan School of Applied Science. In 1940 he was once again a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry, and continued until 1970 with only brief periods of absence. He also held the position of Dean of Men, Associated Dean of Arts and Science, and Executive Director of the Federated Alumni.

Ward, Jessie Revell

Jessie Revell Ward of Amherst, Nova Scotia, attended the Mount Allison Ladies’ College 1924/25 to 1929/30. The Ladies’ College Calendar lists her as a graduate in violin 1929, and as a post-graduate in violin 1930. Later she became a member of the conservatory staff at Stanstead College, Stanstead, Quebec.
