Hirschfeld, Herman

Lieutenant-Colonel (Retired) Herman Marland Hirschfeld, CD, PSC, PLFC - Lieutenant-Colonel Hirschfeld was born on the 5th of August, 1941 in Goldenville, Nova Scotia. In 1962, he joined the Canadian Army and graduated from the Armoured Corps School in Camp Borden, Ontario, as a Second-Lieutenant in 1963. During his thirty-four year military career, Hirschfeld served with both the Royal Canadian Dragoons and the 8th Canadian Hussars. His duties included Troop Leader, Battle Captain, Squadron Commander, and Regimental Second-in-Command. He was also a member of Canada's Olympic National Biathlon Ski Team. He also served extensively at the Combat Training Centre at CFB Gagetown, being one of the first officers to serve at the newly formed Combat Arms School. Hirschfeld took part in a year-long Australian Army Command and Staff Collage Course in Queenscliff, Australia in 1981. While Outback, Hirschfeld made many new friends and enjoyed his time. The Slouch Hat on display was given to him by his Australian friends. Notably, Hirschfeld served with NATO's Central Army Group HQ in Germany as the Senior Canadian Liaison Officer from 1987-1990. He retired from the Army in June 1996 and currently lives with his wife in Oromocto, New Brunswick

Hourihan, Anne

Anne Hourihan donated several items to the 8th Hussars Museum in 2018. These included her husbands, J Roberts, military paraphernalia. He enlisted in the Armoured Corps in 1962. He proceeded to Germany in 1974. He was repatriated to Canada and posted to Sackville in 1979, before retiring in 1984.

Howard, William

Sgt William Howard originally from Scotland born April 7th 1903, settled in London Ontario with his wife Cherry and 2 children worked at Labatts Brewery as a brewer. Howards experience with the Saint John Ambulance let him to join the Royal Canadian Medical Corps in 1941. In the spring of 1942 Howard traveled to Camp Sussex as a trainer. During Howards stay in Sussex he rented a room for his wife Cheery over Sharps Drug Store for 6 weeks. Sgt Howard shipped out for Aldershot England looking after the wounded during world war 2 . In 1945 Howard returned to Canada and Civilian Life. Sgt William Howard died September 2nd 1966.

Huggard, Charles and Alleyne

Charles Huggard was born in Springfield< King's County NB on 9 November 1912. He enlisted with the Non-permanent Active Militia in 1928 serving until 1931. Subsequently, he reenlisted with the militia from 1934-1939. Thereafter, he enrolled in the Canadian Army (Active) Infantry Corps with the Princess Patricia Light Canadian infantry. He was promoted in 1940 to Company Quartermaster. He ended the Second World war as a Captain. During the Second World War, he served in Italy, France, and the Netherlands. He volunteered to join the Pacific Force in 1945. After World war II, he continued with the Regular Army, serving in Korea. He would be awarded the American Bronze Star for his actions during that conflict. Charles was promoted to Major in 1950 and continued serving until he was honourable discharged in 1963. Charles Huggard died in 1995, age 82.
Alleyne (Silver) Huggard, the wife of Charles, served with the Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWCA) during World War II. Alleyne was born 16 May 1921 in Galt Ontario. She enlisted 7 September 1942 in Toronto. She worked as a bookkeeper prior to the outbreak of the war. She was certified as 2/Lieutenant 29 July 1944 after completing the Officers Training Course.

JAILLET, MICHEL - 1964-2013 - Grande-Digue, NB - Michel Jaillet, 48, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 15, 2013, after a brief illness. Born in Moncton, NB on August 22, 1964, he was the son of Normand and Éveline (Babineau) Jaillet. He was a member of the Canadian Military Services.

Kennedy, H.S.

H. S. Kennedy was born in High River, Alberta and he enlisted in 1940 as a trooper in the Calgary Regiment (Tank). In 1944 he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Canadian Armoured Corps and upon graduation he went to Italy and North-West Europe. Kennedy was released from service in 1945 but re-enlisted in 1949 with Lord Strathcona's horse (Royal Canadians). In 1950-1951 he served in Korea, afterwards he went to RCAC school where he worked in D&M Squadron and as assistant chief until 1954. 1957 Kennedy joined the 8th Hussars at Camp Gagetown, with the Hussars he served a few months in Egypt as part of the original reconnaissance squadron. In 1961 he was promoted to major was worked as a General Staff Officer at Oakville and returned to 8CH later that same year. Kennedy later in life became the 8CH Honouray Colonel.
