The vision of a Museum for the 8th Canadian Hussars originated in 1981. A little over two decades later, members of the Association created the Museum Committee to oversee the Museum and, in conjunction with the Centennial of the Town of Sussex, the 8th Hussars Military Museum was opened n 2004. It is located in the Historic Sussex Train Station. The Museum focuses on the history of the 8th Hussars within the wider Canadian Military Context. Our collection encompasses artefacts from the American Rebellion of 1776-1783, the Boer War (1899-1902), the First World War, the Second World War, Peacekeeping, the Cold War, and Afghanistan.

Agricultural Museum (NB)

The Agriculture Museum came about when members of the agricultural field in New Brunswick decided to showcase the long tradition of farm inning in the Province. They are dedicated to showcasing farming prior to the 1970's. They have one of the largest collection of agricultural artefacts in the Maritimes. The Museum grounds is housed where the Tank Hangers used to be in Camp Sussex. On the grounds there is a CN Train station as well as a Blacksmith's workshop. The Museum is open June to August. Guided tours are available.

Alward, David

Photographs were from David Alward father Ford's training with the 8th Canadian Hussars from 1950-1951. He joined the Hussars in October 1946 with others from Havelock, New Brunswick and was a private with "A" troop. Each summer David's father went to Camp Petawawa to train on actual tanks. In the late 1940s he was promoted to Lance Corporal and then Corporal. From 1948-1949 he went to Business College. During this time David's father was asked to take over the Havelock troop thus becoming a 2nd Lieutenant. From November 1950 to May 1951 he was in Camp Borden to train to become a Troop Commander. While at Camp Border he traveled to Camp Meaford to train with live ammunition. When David's father completed the course he was promoted to First Lieutenant. In 1952 he attended Gordon College and in 1956-1957 he attended the Ontario Agricultural College

Bell, Billy

Billy Bell was one of the prime movers in the association of 8th Canadian Hussars. , a natural organization.
Billy was a sergeant with A squadron in the 8th Hussars - he had be shot out of a tank seven times . He was a valued and respected member of his community and a long time director of the 8th Hussars Association. He was awarded the Canadian 125th Commemorative Medal for his outstanding service and the town of Hampton had honored him by naming a street William Bell Drive.

Beveridge, Lt. Col John R.

LCol Beveridge was the Commanding Officer of the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) regular force regiment from 1971-1973. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Association of the 8th Canadian Hussars (PL) Inc which was the first step in securing and protecting both artefacts and archival materials from the more than 150 year of history of the regiment in New Brunswick. LCol Beveridge also coordinated the successful application which saw HRH The Princess Anne appointed as the Colonel Commandant of the 8th Hussars, a position she still maintains today. Later in his career he was awarded the title of Honorary Colonel of the Regiments. He currently resides in Ontario and continues to be active with the Association and Regimental Council.

Bickerton, Mary Frances

Mrs. Mary Bickerton was born on November 14, 1926 in London, England, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Hazell) Deegan. She came to Canada as a war bride in 1946. Her husband was Sergeant Gordie Bickerton, a member of the 5th Armoured Regiment (8th Princess Louise's New Brunswick Hussars). She served for 16 years postwar in the Canadian Army Militia. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a past President of the Sussex Branch # 20 as well as the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise's) Association. Mary served as a director for King's Manor and the Kiwanis Nursing Home. She was a member of the Trinity Anglican Church Choir.

Black, Lt. Col Joseph Laurence

Lt-Col Black was born in 1900 in the province of New Brunswick. He would attend the Royal military College in Ontario graduating in 1921. He proceeded to join the reserved with the 8th New Brunswick Hussars. Lt. Col Black was appointed as Commanding Officer of C Squadron of the Hussars. The Squadron would muster in Sackville and train there.

When World War II commenced, the Hussars were mobilized for active duty and Lt-Col was one of the first officers to volunteer for overseas service. He was second in command of the Regiment in 1941. Unfortunately, due to a familial emergence, Black was transferred back to serve in Canada. He expected to return to his regiment, but he would instead go on to serve the rest of the war in Canada and the Untied States. He served as an intelligence officer on the West Coast of Canada.

Lt. Col Black was later President of J.L. Black and Sons. Also, he was the inaugural president of the Moncton Radio Station, created in the 1930s.

Blanchet, Peter Maurice (Frenchy)

Col Blanchet (Frenchy) graduated from the Royal Military College , Kingston Ont., 1929, and in 1931 , joined the 8th Princess Louise's (New Brunswick) Hussars as a commissioned officer serving through to the conclusion of World War 2. Wartime duty consisted of the post of Adjutant , and as commander of "A" Squadron for the combat phase, during which he earned the awe and admiration of his men. Subsequently , he was elected President of the regimental association , and later appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the regiment.

Boudreau, Ernie

Ernie Boudreau joined the army on 28th Germany 1943. Upon enlistment he headed to Cornwall to begin training. He disembarked in Scotland in 1944, before transferring to France. He returned to Canada after the war.

Bowen, Lloyd Dave

Lloyd David Bowen was born 28 March 1921. Lloyd joined the 8th Canadian Hussars in 1941. He served overseas during World War 2 . Regimental number B62332. Lloyd received the 1939-1945 star, Italy , France and Germany star. He also received the Canadian volunteer metal, defense and war metal.
