The 8th Canadian Hussars was formed on April 4th, 1848 as the New Brunswick Regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry, from eleven independent troops of Cavalry. The first of these was raised in 1825 from descendants of the Loyalists who settled the St. John and Kennebecasis river valleys.

Fonds consists of a photocopied History which includes history of Regiment, of Flag, Coat of Arms and HRH Princess Louise. 9 pages about the Peace Organization of the Cavalry photocopied from the Army Review. Also included are photocopies of article by Patricia Belier re: Isaac Burpee 1875-1951 a well known businessman and 2nd Lt. of the 8th Hussars. 1848-1913 ,General Orders and Routine Orders. Also 1909-1910 Bound Copy of Appointments, Regulations, General and Militia Orders. 3 original books 1- June 1907-1911 Regiment Orders, 2-1892-1894 Orders and 3 1899-June1908 Routine Orders. Personnel in uniform, list of Regiment members and 1867 Report of the Militia . A copy of Dress regulations for the Militia 1907.and Ceremonial Sabretachs and dress uniforms 1880-1900s'. Photocopied pages of the Field Exercise and Evolutions of Infantry 1861and a photocopied newspaper clipping of 1896 describing the regiments service in the Sudan and 1 photo of the Royal Canadians in South Africa. 5 pages of prizes- 1875 photo silver coffee urn which was the prize for shooting; a silver trumpet for Efficiency and a Certificate of Military Instruction for Lt. J W Black. Training- photo 1901 Cavalry Training School in Toronto and a original copy of Kings regulations and Orders for 1912. A bound copy of 1901-1908 Instructions for Camps , and original pieces of paper-Discharge Certificate for CM Brown, 2 messages from King George VI. Annual Reports 1880-1887. and a bound copy of Annual Reports 1880 and a bound copy of Annual Reports 1890-1899
